Trees

If you own your home, you know that any yard work can be expensive. Having an older home and 4 acres of land, we have a number of very old trees, possible over 100 years old. Recently, we had to hire someone to cut down as well as trim some trees. Thank goodness this wasn't as expensive as the tree we had to remove 2 years ago. That particular, tree had been hit by lightening, had a huge hole in it's trunk. This tree was located near our home and our insurance co. told us if it hit the house, they might not cover our house. "It's maintenance". Well, over 3,000 dollars., the tree came down. Unfortunately, years ago, it was the norm to somehow to pour cement into the tree's base, this added problems as well as money expense. That particular event still haunts me.

In this post, I am going to include photos of the recent trees that had to be cut down as well as trimmed. Unfortunately the man who shimmied up the trees looks like a red dot in the photos. You need to follow the dot. Sorry! These men were amazing as they had limited equipment. The man up the trees works for a tree co. does this on the sideline.
As my husband and I were watching the tree episode,my husband got into the subject of history. Can you imagine what these trees witnessed throughout their 100 years? These large giants, looking down on our property saw life from different centuries. People wearing different attire, changes in the house when it had few rooms and through the years a number add on rooms. On HGTV, there is a program, If Walls Could Talk. We exchange this to, If Trees Could Talk. Just think, God created life, nature. Trees could be considered as "eyes" in the world. I, realize that trees could be a problem.I,also realize that if we had no trees there would be problems with building, no paper, no books, shelter for animals, etc. God created trees ,what would it be like if we had no trees? As well as the practical aspects of trees, I, find so many beautiful trees that give me pleasure just by being in our world. God has given us so many wondrous things, including trees.

  1. I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT ROSE, MY DAUGHTER HAD TO HAVE TREE REMOVAL SERVICE TOO. IT WAS JUST TO MUCH WORK FOR HER HUSBAND. IT WAS JUST A FEW TREES, AND IT COAST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THERE ARE A FEW MORE TREES THAT COULD BE TAKEN DOWN, BUT THEY ARE GOING TO WAIT ON IT. LOVE YOUR STORY OF THE TREES, YES I AGREE CAN YOU IMAGINE IF TREES COULD TALK. HAVE A GREAT WEEK ROSE. RIZZI

  2. I enjoyed reading your post Rose. I love trees too. It's funny how you were mentioning in your post how you pondered the thought of what those trees have witnessed over the years. I just recently had that thought as well.

it is too bad we have to cut them down sometimes but it has to be done.
    take care

    thank you
    Hope

  3. Interesting thoughts about trees. We bought our house partly because of the huge old maple in the front yard, and a few years ago it had to be cut down. It was such a sad time for me, we lost the brautiful tree, the birds, the shade. Not just a tree gets lost, many other things go with it. We also found we had a new view and the living room was much lighter. I need to pick out a baby tree to plant now.

  4. Our pine trees recently caught Southern pine beetles and three very close to the house were cut down by a tree service and all the others were sprayed twice. They dropped the tree closest to the house on our parking pad and put a hole in our siding. They paid for repairs but the repairs tooks about five months. The tree did not hit the house we are thankful for that!

  6. I do enjoy looking at trees. I think they're very beautiful, especially in the Fall.
I like the HGTV show you're talking about. It would be interesting if trees could talk. I'm sure they'd have some great stories.
I spent many hours climbing them when I was a kid. :)

  7. Whispering Pines is surrounded by, you guessed it, pines! I would miss their beauty, the birds would miss the shelter is affords them, the grandkiddos would miss the hiding places under them. They're like a huge hug that wraps around our property and us. If I need to visualize Christmas, I just need to stand next to them and inhale deeply! One time the county came to fix a culvert by the creek and the guy said something about chopping down some pines...I thought he said he was taking all the front pines down. I almost fainted! Thankfully, I had misunderstood. All was good, all the trees remained untouched! Thanks for the sweet post Rose!

  8. I love trees too. It's interesting to think of how many people have enjoyed the beauty of those old trees. I like the show if Walls could talk, and I think a tree version would be great!

  9. Hi Rose, It is interesting to think about what stories trees could tell. We enjoy the wildlife that the trees bring but we have had the expense of cutting a few troublesome trees in the past too. I sure would have missed my swing when I was a kid without the big pecan tree to hang it in!

  10. Hi Rose: I know how costly trees can be. I just had a Sycamore trimed and it was $500. However, I love trees so I guess I was just have to keep paying. Blessings, Martha

  12. Some of the trees in our yard need trimming. I am trying to find a reputable arborist for the last tree surgeon that came out just wanted to "chop and go." I am hoping that the arborist will "trim and treat."

  15. The trees around your house are indeed lovely, but I can only imagine how much it would cost if one hit your house! Definitely worth the cost of the upkeep now I bet!

  16. I had no idea tree removal was so expensive. I love trees, I think life without them would be aweful. No trees= no birds, no squirrels, ect.

I would really be neat to know what all a tree has to say.

  17. You do have some great old trees. It would be cool if trees could talk. I walked in some groves in California that were more than 2000 years old. They were alive before Jesus as born. I hate the idea of cutting trees down, but we did have to take one of larger ones out, as it had grown to large to support it's branches any longer. Have a happy Wednesday!
