THE PICTURE OF A CHILD
I have to admit that I don't have extensive knowledge about art. Rarely do I know one artist from another. My favorite art/pictures/photos are depicting people as in a portrait or being involved in some activity. During the past year I have started a collection of pictures of children and began to hang these in a grouping in my hallway. Throughout my work history, I have worked with children, from infancy through teen years. Children face good and bad times and we adults should be positive role models. Unfortunately not all adults teach children positive values. Looking at images of children there are possible indications of innocence, playfulness and simplicity. There are also those images that depict strife and sadness. Looking at a picture, I often wonder what story is behind a child's image. The "children gallery"reminds me of the love we should have for a child. Over two years ago, we were blessed with a granddaughter, "ms. pumpkin"(nickname). Our granddaughter is fortunate as she has alot of people who love her. Although, "ms.pumpkin" lives in another state her parents take alot of pictures of her as well as we usually talk with her on the telephone weekly. I know it's great being a parent, but Boy! being a grandparent, is SUPER. If you are a grandparent, you will understand what I mean. Enjoy my collection as well as my PRIZE photo of "ms. pumpkin". Out of curiosity, do you have a collection /gallery of pictures/photos/art that is special or has some significance?

Hi Rose, I have a picture of a young girl standing by a stream, holding a duck in her apron, other ducks swimming in the water. This vintage print is simply framed behind glass, but it does have significance. This picture hung on my bedroom wall when I was a little girl and for years after I was grown up and married.
ReplyDeleteIn later years I ran across this picture among my mother’s things. I was overjoyed to find it. That little picture takes center stage in my room today. Gerry
I totally know what you mean Rose...and the 1st two photos are my absolute favorite!!! Love those photos of Ms Pumpkin! She is a doll, but of course, her Mommy & Daddy are pretty gosh darn special too! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteChildren are wonderful photography subjects because they wear their hearts on their sleeves. No guessing what they are feeling, one look tells it all. Yes,we grandmas know all about how it feels and you have to be one to KNOW!! Where have you been, Rose?? Did you finally just get so fed up with the computer? How is it now, did you find the problem?
ReplyDeleteI'm not very good at taking pictures of people, but I do love children.
ReplyDeleteHi Rose: I just don't know what it is about Grandchildren, but they are a thrill. I just love being with mine. I have a hallway filled with my children's pictures and of there children's pictures. It is very special to me. Blessings to you kind lady, Martha
ReplyDeleteYou've got some really nice pictures there and Ms Pumpkin is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of old pictures of some of our ancestors that are special to us.
I love my Grandkiddos! They are the chance to parent without the rules...we can spoil, laugh when they are a bit naughty, talk about a million things that their parents are too busy to really enjoy...then when they go home, we can take a nap! I have a ton of pictures of all my children. It's the reason I started blogging, so my kids can send their stories with pics to me and I can send my stories back to them. I also have a few really nice pics of my ancestors. Everyone needs to know where they came from...and how we got some traits we're not really thrilled to have!
ReplyDeleteI am a grandparent and fully agree, grandparenting beats parenting hands flat down.
ReplyDeleteI have a framed picture a wonderful lady once gave me. It's a gathering of Inuits holding a handmade trampoline. There's a child bouncing and high up in the air. The caption reads 'It's my turn".
It is one of my favorites.
Sweet, sweet shots! I especially like the vitage looking pictures of children.
ReplyDeleteI love those pictures -children are beautiful subjects. Thanks for checking my blog--I have been doing daycare for my new grandson so just haven't had any free time to sit down to blog--it has been hit and miss these past few months!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful collection of pictures! I'm not a grandmother yet, but I can appreciate how you feel.
ReplyDeleteYou, my dear, are most inspirational!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting with me this past week. Since I've not been around on the computer much I'm trying to stop by and visit with my blogging buddies today and sending along wishes for your upcoming week...that it be a happy one!!!
Ms. Pumpkin is precious. How often do you get to see her?
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful assortment of pictures. When my kids were little their pediatrician had pretty pictures of children from days gone by hanging on all the walls of her offices. They were in such soft hues and all the scenes evoked a tranquil feeling - great for a doctor's office. If the kids did not appreciate the serenity of the pictures, I think the moms did.
I have album after album of grandkids, Great Grandkids and the kids I babysat for when my youngest was still home. Great entry Rose.
ReplyDeleteRose, I, too, love photographs of children. I always have. I, too, worked with children for many years. My hallway is decorated with a collection of photos of my own children while growing up, as well as the grandchildren. I can't think of any faces I'd rather look at each day :)
ReplyDeleteMs. Pumpkin is adorable, I know you're proud :) You are so right, being a grandparent is SUPER :) Take care, Kathy
As an amateur photographer, I have taken photos of our foster kids and am working on a display for our hall.
ReplyDeleteRose, First of all, thank you for your kind comment about my little poem about my house all fixed up for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI envy your collections of photos of children. They bring such promise to our hearts and help us believe in a future filled with good.
Namaste..........cj
I just love art work that showcases children. One of my favorite artists is Mary Cassalt. She does mostly children and when we were stationed in D.C I was able to pick up a print of hers from the National Gallery Of Art. It's of two little girls playing in the sand on the beach. I love it. Your collection is beautiful as well and makes the heart sing.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about being a grandparent, it's the best job in the world.
Thank you for stopping by and leaving such a nice comment, Char
Hi Rose, I love the picture of the girl holding the picture of the other girl. Truly I fear for children these days as people lack civility and seem to look out only for themselves. ♥O
ReplyDeleteI love this post, the picture of a child is so beautiful. I cannot wait to be a Grandparent :)
ReplyDeleteDear Rose,
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm glad to know you are back. Thank you for your kind comment on my blog.
This post is so beautiful and kind. I love your gallery. And your granddaughter is just adorable.
Have a wonderful week!
I do not know much about art or the great artist. There are certain subjects I enjoy no matter who paints them. Children make some of the best.
ReplyDeleteHi Rose, I love children also --and have worked with children all of my life also.. I do think that today's children are (on the whole) not as well-behaved or as respectful as children many years ago. This is such a "ME ME ME" generation --and the kids think the world revolves around them. That's good in some ways --but bad in others. But---whatever is going on, the children learn from ADULTS. SO--if the adults are all into themselves and their lives, then the kids pick up on that, and learn from them. Well--enough from my 'soap box' this morning.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to be a grandmother --and I'm glad you are enjoying it also... Hope you get to see your grands more than I get to see mine.
I am not an art collector. My favorite works of art are nature scenes, waterfalls, country churches, etc...Thomas Kinkade comes to mind.
Hugs,
Betsy
Amen, you are so right Rose....being a grandmother is just the best!!! my sweet grandson had a birthday today....12 years old....I can't believe it!

Hi Rose...I love your collection! I posted a photo of a little girl last Friday from the shop that I thought my friend bought...well she didn't so the little sweetie came home with me!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely collection of pictures here Rose. The only photographs of children we have out are of our son when he was younger. My favourite photos though are at my Mum's house and she has all the family black and white pictures going back decades. There are some fabulous ones of my great grandparents - it's nice to see how times were back then.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Rose ... I love your collection ... I also love children and pictures of them ..I have a few that I've picked up at yard-sales or antique shops ... I think I have five of them but I have not hung them yet.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to tell you that your little "grandgirl" (as I call them) is adorable...I'll bet you are a wonderful grandma.
Hugz ...Betty
These are just lovely. My mom collected some old fashioned paintings of little girls after my brother had his daughter. She had them in a room she called "Kassie's Room". Interestingly I had a room in my house in Dallas called "Kassie's Room", too. It was my guest room, but I decorated in things she'd like for when she stayed with me. Anyway, my mom gave us her vintage framed photos and we put them up in the amazing playhouse your hubby (aka: Grampy) made for our little girl. Of the photos you've included above, I must confess I'm most partial to the little girl in the tutu. But then I'm probably biased. That little girl loves her Grammy so much!
ReplyDeleteOh Rose, these are absolutely wonderful!
ReplyDeletemiss pumpkin is adorable. i loved this post. i have a heart for children too and i wish everyone did. these little souls deserve so much love and kindness. and you are right, they also need good role models :)
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are so pretty! Not a grandparent yet but, from what i hear, I'm gonna LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteChildren are always considered as one of the real treasures available in this Earth...
ReplyDeleteGreat Pictures... it must be awesome being a grandparent!
