THE wind

The Wind is silent
no movement of trees or bushes.
Oh! How I wish to hear the echo of wind
blowing in the air,
trees swaying back and forth.

But, No, stillness remains.
No wind bellows,heat so
unbearable to the touch.
Oh! wind display your power.

Rose

Do you ever think about the wind? Reflect, close yor eyes, visualize, you are going down a country road. To your left, to your right, there are fields of tall golden corn. They are doing a dance as the wind touches their tops. The corn fields become more alive and sounds are heard. Let's walk along an ocean beach. The wind is hitting your face and playing with your hair. The ocean has movement as the wind pushes up against the water and waves move causing a claping sound. Have you ever looked out through a window and saw lightening and heard thunder? The trees and other objects scatter as the wind gets in it's path. Trees moving back and forth, flowers swaying. Oh! how mighty is the wind. The wind can be both friend and enemy.

WHO has SEEN THE wind?

Who has seen the wind?
NEITHER I NOR YOU:
but when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.

Christina Rossetti

  1. Move to the panhandle of Texas. We never had still days there. Most people hated the wind when they visited us...but I love it. Who cares if it messes up my hair...it's just hair.

  2. We are surrounded by really tall trees and most any day, I can hear the wind stirring the top leaves in those trees. It's very calming to me.

    Have a great week Rose.

  3. I must admit I rarely think of the wind in a positive way. It's usually blowing dust in my eyes, or blowing over my flower pots, or blowing my neighbors leaves onto my lawn. Although I do like to feel a cool breeze on my face on a hot summer night and I like to watch those big wind mills spin around producing power when I'm driving to Palm Springs. I guess it's as you said, " The wind can be both friend and enemy."

    God bless you, ~Ron

  4. I LOVE to listen to the wind from inside, but I hate the feel of it when I'm outdoors and it's blowing into my ears... I've had ear infections my entire life and even a slight breeze can be very painful.

  5. Yes, the wind can work for good or bad! It can caress us or kill us! Very good poem! When things get very still, there seems to be a sense of foreboding.

  6. When I reflect on sounds of the wind, my mind takes me to my childhood. I can still hear the whistle sounds of the wind as it blew around the windowed gables of the house. My little brother and I were in the safe and loving care of Mom and Dad and we were never afraid.

Rose, I enjoyed your poem and the thoughts you presented on wind.

  7. Hey Rose!

We had a lot of wind last night. On our way to church we seen almost 2 dozen trees that lost branches or fell down altogether over the storm we had last night. I love the wind. Right now with the high heat and high humidity I would love for a cool windy day!

    Hugs,
    Angela

  8. The wind is like everything else weather-related.... We put up with it because there is not one thing we can do about it... I love to complain and gripe when our weather is horrible (like it has been all summer), but for some reason, Mother Nature just doesn't listen to me... ha

I love winds ---except when it's the dead of winter and those winds send cold through you... I also know how much wind can cause disaster--if there's too much...

But--even today, when it was so hot here, the winds were blowing hot air all through our big shade trees. It's pretty to watch ---but still quite hot...

Nice post about WINDS, Rose... Thanks!!!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  10. This was in the movie A Walk to Remember - have you seen it? The wind - you can't see it, but you know it is there - just like Jesus.

  11. Friend or foe, we neither hear nor see the wind...just view the proof that it has been there. I like your poem.

Thank you for dropping in and leaving a note.

  13. As a child, I loved the feeling of the wind when I was on the swings at the schoolgrounds - it made me feel like I was flying!!!

  14. We usually have a lot of wind here on (we live on one of the Great Lakes) but, the last few days, it has been so hot and humid and no sign of even the smallest breeze. late last night I went outside, and there it was, the wind! Oh, how I missed it!

  15. I have to admit, wind is one of the weather phenomenons I dislike the most (snow is the other). Where I live, the wind seems to blow about 350 days a year, and in the winter months it's positively bone-chilling. I do more complaining about the wind than enjoying it. My son said, "But without the wind, you couldn't fly a kite." My response, "I don't fly a kite, so it doesn't matter."

Anyhow, in the summer, I enjoy a GENTLE breeze, but in the winter, I'd just as soon have ZERO wind.

    Blessings on your day,
    Patti

  16. I was going to write almost the same as "Hopeful Heary/Patti". Wind is not something I like, because here in Paraguay it mostly brings us sand storms or in the winter really cold weather. So reading this made me think there are some good things about wind.

  17. I am looking forward to some cool autumn breezes, how about you? These summer storm winds scare me since we are surrounded by tall Georgia pine trees :)

  18. When I think of the wind I think of tornados that are so prevalent here in the midwest. When I was a kid the wind always scared me silly and truthfully it still does! Now a nice cooling breeze is heaven... especially this summer..whew, we finally have some cooler temps and my heart goes out to all of you down south..lovely poetry Rose!

  19. Hi Rose, You are welcome for the canyon info. You asked me about North Georgia. I love the mountains especially. I attended college in Cleveland, GA. In younger days, I loved to hike the waterfalls and visit Helen etc. We are between Roswell and Waleska. I did not have your email, so I am responding here. Where are you located? My email is on my profile.
